Hackathons are great, but the name can sound intimidating, while "professional learning workshop" just doesn't have the ring of fun to it. The Silicon Valley chapter of the Computer Science Teachers Association, Learningtech.org, and other Bay Area colleagues invented the Coding Bee, an inclusive event where everyone chooses their own level of challenge, collaborates with others, and celebrates computer science learning at any level. Armed with plenty of micro:bit v2s and two boxes of donuts, CSTA-SV hosted a volunteer-run, in-person, all-day event that brought together old and new CSTA members, elementary through high school teachers, novices, and experienced programmers. In this session, you'll experience a condensed version of our coding bee. Choose one of four grade-appropriate physical computing activities, collaborate with new people, and celebrate your learning! We'll share our resources (schedule, planning spreadsheets, lesson plans, materials lists, budget), along with lessons learned, so your CSTA chapter can put on an even better coding bee! REGISTER HERE! Enter Discount Code: "bee-50" to receive 50% off the workshop registration fee! The first 20 enrolled attendees will be able to allowed to keep their micro:bit v2! A classroom set of 15 micro:bits will be awarded by a drawing at the end of the session! |
