K-12 Teachers

Computer Science Cohort IV: Saturdays 4/23 and 4/30 from 8:30-3:30
We are proud to announce the continuation of our popular, ongoing series to teach Computer Science and Computational Thinking in the classroom. Participants will work in two separate groups (K-5 and 6-8). Light breakfast and lunch served.

Elementary School (K-5)
The emphasis will be on introducing computational thinking concepts using resources available from Code.org and Scratch. The Hour of Code activities have demonstrated that elementary students show a high level of engagement and enthusiasm in these activities. Participants will work in small teams to try out activities. Group discussion will focus on highlighting important concepts embedded in these activities.

Middle School (6-8)
The emphasis will be on teaching a Computer Science curriculum. A model curriculum will be provided that draws on several different resources (Code.org, Khan Academy and Scratch). The use of text coding (Python, NetLogo) and Unplugged.org activities will also be examined. Participants will explore selected activities from the curriculum in small teams.
